Nothing Ever Lasts Forever
30(+1) Day Song Challenge Day 7: “A Song to Drive to”
Some of you who read my story yesterday might think that I should’ve saved yesterday’s song for today’s theme. Well, I have no regrets because I seriously think yesterday’s song was the perfect choice for yesterday’s theme. After all, I already have one song in mind for me to drive to. Preferably alone, though (but I really can’t drive — yet).
I’ve always imagined myself driving around strolling around the city of Jakarta, my beloved birthplace, while blasting this one particular song, screaming the chorus at the top of my lungs. Give a round of applause for this song. I welcome to this platform humbly, Everybody Wants to Rule The World by Tears For Fears!
The biggest reason behind it is actually the vibe this song brings. I really see myself looking at the streets I’m roaming through, observing a montage of people living their lives, minding their own businesses. While I’m probably alone in my car, singing a song about how people decide to live their lives. I would really want to live this out.
I don’t know how to explain this other reason, though. But this song is that type of song that would make me want to look outside the window. Like, I can imagine looking at the sky, the scenery, or just looking outside of a building. It makes me want to see this world that everybody wants to rule. And it feels different when you do it on the road, you know. The world moves, and you can see more of it and its people, all the while you hold the control of looking at more of the world or sticking to your schedule, your plan, on going somewhere.
Somewhere between the lines of this song tells me a warning, though. It really felt like there’s something empty about only chasing the freedom and/or pleasures of life (all for freedom and for pleasure, nothing ever lasts forever, everybody wants to rule the world). I really think there’s more than meets the eye on the lyrics this song is saying. But maybe that’s just me.
Oh, well. Allow me to end this story by singing two of the last choruses of thing song.
Say that you’ll never, never, never, never need it
One headline, why believe it?
Everybody wants to rule the world
All for freedom and for pleasure
